Recently, fraudsters have activated old schemes, improving them with new details. They create fake accounts in messengers, posing as heads of regions, representatives of the authorities and local governments. On behalf of these "leaders", they write to citizens, sometimes using deepfake technologies for "confirmation", simulating a short video call with "poor connection quality". Then, having warned about the upcoming conversation with law enforcement agencies, they exert psychological pressure, luring money under the pretext of revealed facts of financing illegal organizations.
Director of the Cybersecurity Monitoring Department of Security Vision Nikolai Goncharov on the air of the program "Time Signals" on Radio of Russia told why these schemes still work, explained the motivation of scammers for using instant messengers in their schemes and told how not to become their victim.
